While in PSE: Prior to attending Monte Carlo Nite, I "pre-tuned" with several PSE members at Blazing Saddles. After a rather noble effort at that bygone establishment, we then proceeded (i.e. stumbled) to Monte Carlo Nite. While the events of that evening are somewhat of a blur, I do recall that I had good luck and had a number of chips for bidding at the auction. Somehow I ended bidding on LA Philharmonic tickets instead of tickets to see Tom Petty. (Those things can happen after several hours and rounds at Blazing Saddles!)
Craziest thing after PSE: Last summer I was talked in to traveling to Pompeloma, Spain to participate in the "running of the bulls". I went with several of my USC fraternity classmates (where I attended prior to Cal Poly). The running takes place at 8 am. Therefore tradition provides that you stay up all night in the bars of Pompeloma socializing (i.e. drinking- notice a trend in these stories) in preparation for the run. We of course honored that tradition.
After our "preparation" we then when to the designated area for the "loco" runners. I made the mistake ot taking the 3 pieces of advise given to me by experienced runners: don't start running immeadiately: don't look back for the bull and don't worry if you see runners jumping over the barricades.
Following this purportedly sage advise, as I had almost finished the run, I was hit from behind by the lead bull and thrown about 20 feet into the barricades where I was pulled to safety from the other 5 bulls by a Red Cross worker. Fortunately I did not suffer any real injuries. However, my escapade was continuously show on ESPN, CNN and local media outlets (I have the pictures to prove my stupidity)
The good thing that came out of it was I didn't have to buy a drink the rest of the trip. |
