OBITUARY – JOHN RAYMOND DE RUYTER

John was born in Lynwood, California on January 22, 1962 to Jake and Judy DeRuyter. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Long Beach and graduated from St. John Bosco High School in 1980. John was a wrestler in high school and was also an Eagle Scout. He was awarded an Associate of Arts degree from Long Beach City College, majoring in Electrical Science. His career he took was a professional electrician and he quickly moved up to become a project manager and eventually a C.O.O.

John spent a great deal of time volunteering with his church. He was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Parish. John also enjoyed playing hockey and softball with a community team. His greatest love was his family. His wife, Mary, and his three daughters, Sarah (15 yrs), Rachel, (14 yrs), and Elizabeth (11 yrs) were the light of his life. His greatest source of happiness was sharing outdoor time with them.

John's passion was cooking for family and friends. John is also survived by his father, Jake; mother, Judy; brothers, Tim (Kara), Mike (Blanca), Don (Shannon), Ted (Juanita), Matt; sisters, Linda (Brian) Smith and Lori (Mike) Provincio; and father-in-law, Philip Schember. He also left many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends who loved him very much.

Vigil services will be held on Thursday, November 3 (today) at 7:30 pm and funeral services on Friday, November 4 (tomorrow) at 11:00 am, both will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6220 E. Willow Street, Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you to contribute to the college trust fund for John's daughters.
